Project Magi: Google is Changing Search in a Significant Way. Project Magi is being worked on by 160 engineers at Google, according to the New York Times.
A new search engine that they want to launch is built on the foundation of Project Magi. Google as we know it will be replaced by the new search engine.
There are some specifics regarding Project Magi but not much about their new search engine.
This is what we do know:
Chat like interface
Google wants to improve the conversational feel of search.
Imagine asking someone a question and receiving a response. similar to ChatGPT, maybe.
Consider how you converse with Alexa but with a more intelligent version. Additionally, one that can pick up new information as you ask questions rather than just picking it up from previous conversations.
It’s a logical progression in the search process. Everybody wants answers, and we all want answers that are personalized for us.
They are attempting to offer the traditional way of displaying 10 results per page when you are merely looking for an answer.
Even while it won’t be applicable to all search queries, consider this the next step after innovations like Google’s knowledge graph.
But it isn’t the major adjustment; rather, it is the manner in which Google will aid in transaction facilitation.
Transactions will be able to happen on Google
Google will start managing transactions on Google, whether it’s ordering a pair of shoes or making a ticket reservation.
In other words, why should you visit a different website to purchase a pair of shoes?
Why can’t Google just display the shoes you desire based on the information they have on you and allow you to purchase them with a single click?
Everything from your shoe size to your preferred color to knowing if you need broad or narrow shoes should be considered. Or the fact that sizes vary across brands.
Additionally, they do offer Google Pay, which would seamlessly interact with this capability.
So, what does this mean for marketers?
Google will begin managing all transactions on Google, whether it’s ordering a pair of shoes or making a flight reservation.
To put it another way, why do you need to visit a different website to buy a pair of shoes?
Why can’t Google just display the shoes you want to buy based on the information they have on you and allow you to make a click-and-buy purchase?
Everything from your shoe size to the color you like to know if you need wide or narrow shoes. or how the size varies across companies.
They also have Google Pay, which would seamlessly work with this capability.
So, what does this mean for marketers?
Well, advertisements will still be present. Because Google is a company and is publicly listed, they are compelled to make money, and that money must be made in a way that is lucrative.
However, over time, the way advertisements function will change.
Consider how you presently pay a cost per click for advertisements. You convert that to a cost per acquisition on your end and then model it from a profit and loss standpoint.
If it is lucrative, you increase your spending (or at least try to) to increase the number of clicks. You lower the amount per click that you are willing to spend if it is not lucrative.
My hypothesis is that Google will ultimately switch to a cost-per-acquisition approach. This facilitates the task for marketers and may enhance customer experience.
Additionally, even if your website lacks quality, you may still generate money because everything is being handled by Google.
There are always terms that will bring visitors to your site from an SEO viewpoint.
In the past, visiting a website like Weather.com was required if you wanted to know the weather. However, Google currently just displays the weather.
They have still been driving more traffic.Â
According to Danny Sullivan:
“In fact, Google Search delivers billions of hits to websites every day, and since Google’s founding, we’ve increased the amount of traffic we send to the open web annually”
These new capabilities should enhance Google traffic, which will help offset some of the clicks that might otherwise leave your site.
A new SEO technique will also be available. How can your website be optimized so that Google will display your goods and services while looking for items to show users through Project Magi?
How do you feel about Google’s recent updates?
